Food Handler

The food handler course is Approximately 60 to 90 minutes long. This course consists of five sections based on Basic Food Safety, Personal Hygiene, Cross contamination and Allergens, Time and Temperature, and Cleaning and Sanitation. You must complete these sections before the assessment is available. There is an optional “Job Specific” section that your manager may want you to complete. Please ask your manager before taking the assessment.

You will have 12 months from the date of purchase to begin the course. The course will expire within 60 days after it was started. After purchasing the course or having it assigned to your ServSafe User ID, you can simply select Launch from the Course Management page. If a Course


Key was assigned to you, simply enter that key on the same page in the designated area.

If you exit the course and log out, you can sign back in and return to the point where you left off. There will be an option to take the test in either English or Spanish. You will be able to switch languages at any time during the course. When using the course you can use the System Check (link to the system check) to ensure your computer is compatible with the Course.

Please note, if you’re currently a ServSafe Food Protection Manager Instructor or Proctor you still need to become a ServSafe Food Handler Instructor in order to access the exams (there is no Proctor status requirement for the Food Handler program).

What is the ServSafe Online Course?
The ServSafe Online Course is the anytime, anywhere food safety training option. This training works during slow shifts, before work, or after hours. It effectively teaches key food safety practices and prepares managers to take the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Exam. This highly interactive format lets managers study at their own pace, and take pre- and post-tests to measure their learning.

Proctored Test

Charlotte Food Safety Pro offers a wide variety of food & beverage proctored exams. A proctored exam is an onsite exam administered by a proctor that is an accredited certification exam for career advancement or to meet government regulation requirements.

ServSafe® Food Manager Certification Exam is an ANSI/CFP approved proctored Exam. The ServSafe® Food Manager Certification Exam is given the day of any of the training sessions scheduled, training center or special request. You will have two hours to complete the exam. The ServSafe® Food Manager Certification Exam is offered in paper form or electronic. The ServSafe® Food Manager Certification paper exam are available in the following languages – Chinese, English, French Canadian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. The ServSafe® Food Manager Certification electronic exam is available in the following languages – Chinese, English, and Spanish.
